This Original Antique 1920's Art Deco 10k Solid White Gold Wax Seal ring is set with an Amazing
LARGE
7ct 12x10mm
RUBY
with superb
BRIGHT RED COLOR
and near perfect clarity. This particular intaglio is of the Greek God Hermes or Roman God Mercury messenger of the gods. An Intaglio is carved into the ruby so that it sits below the surface plane of the ruby, as opposed to a cameo in which the design is raised from it's background.
These Intaglio Gemstones were sometimes used to press into wax to seal documents. Photo #2 shows the impression made in red wax.
It is rare to find a Hand Carved Intaglio of this quality and in Ruby because most were done in Carnelian or Onyx. This is glowing ruby has beautiful color and wonderful luster. This wonderful ruby is flat top emerald cut with a beautifully faceted underside. An Emerald Cut is an octagonal cut with the corners cut at 45 degrees to protect them from damage. The gemstone tests as a ruby on a Presidium Gem Tester and a reflectometer and is most likely a very high quality lab grown ruby. The gemstone has not been removed from the setting for testing so we cannot say it is a natural ruby as it is most likely a very high quality lab grown ruby. A Lab Grown Ruby has the
exact
same physical, optical, and chemical properties of a Natural Ruby meaning it is as hard and scratch resistant. This Ruby is in
PERFECT PRISTINE CONDITION
free of any chips, nicks, cracks, or scratches

This classic 1920's Art Deco ring also has beautifully cast vine details accenting the shoulders of the setting.
The interior is engraved in script "F.C."
The
dark areas on the gold in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished gold.

Regarding Ring Sizing:
Be wary of any online seller that offers sizing of a ring before it is shipped to you. Due to differences in measuring devices and the way certain types of rings fit these rings should only be sized in person by your local jeweler. Sizing by your local jeweler is relatively inexpensive and you will have a ring that properly fits your finger. All size 9 rings are not the same. The ring may fit on a mandrel and measure as a size 9 but the way the ring is made, the way the ring has been enlarged or reduced, and the finger type you have may make it fit like an 8 or 10 or worse. Have your sizing done in person for a proper fit.

The rise from the finger measurement is the height of the ring from the finger to the peak of the gemstone when worn.
