Red Enamel Sterling Polka Dot Cufflinks Signed CM Hallmarked Birmingham Vintage
With a silver frame that sets off the design within and gives them a finished look, these sterling cufflinks feature silver dots that echo the silver borders and are set against a deep, rich red enamel background.
The dots are ringed in a darker red which adds depth and there is texturing on the ground under the rest of the enamel,
which takes on a metallic sheen with
movement in the play of light, for added interest, color and motion.  Polka dots always convey a lively feel and these handsome vintage cufflinks will look smart and appealing against the fabric of your cuffs.
Set in sterling, the oval cufflinks measure about 3/4" by about 1/2".  They weigh 10.3 grams.
Well made, the cufflinks are hallmarked in cartouches on the back of 2 of the faces with an anchor (for Birmingham), lion passant (for sterling) and date letter capital script "Q" (1990) under the maker's mark "CM" in a shield while the other 2 are hallmarked with just the lion and the "Q" in cartouches and all 4 are signed on the back in larger font "CM" in a shield shape.  (Last photo.)  On a website with UK silver makers' marks, there is listed a "CM" in a (slightly differently shaped) shield that was found on Birmingham cuff links dated 1901 and I believe these are by the same firm.
These links are in Very Good vintage condition with no damage or repairs nor chips or cracks in the enamel.  There are scratches noted upon close examination and magnification as well as the usual minor manufacturing imperfections, including some dark spots, minute bubbles, pitting and depressions.  There is surface dirt and tarnish due to age and they have a wonderful vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.
These vintage sterling and enamel cufflinks, with their geometric dotted design and fabulous red color, would make a terrific gift - although I doubt you will want to part with them, and will come to you in a gift box, just in case.  Classic - and classy, this is an outstanding pair of vintage silver and enamel cufflinks to add to your collection of quality and distinction!
