Description
Smokey the Bear late 1961-62 Reflective 1.25” Relief Sign “Prevent Forest Fires”.Date is from the fact that 5 digit zip codes were used in Chicago after July 1963.
Very close to the opening of Richard Rush Studios and Mr. Rush was referenced as
"He followed that with improvements to the Museum of Science and Industry's mine shaft and walk-through heart exhibits,
capping a career in which he had also created Smokey Bear costumes for the National Park Service"
Cannot find another one like this and I have looked everywhere. The Smokey the Bear figure and slogan:
Smokey Says “Prevent Forest Fires”
with the 3D relief of Smokey with “Smokey” on the hat lines it up with a very well known Studio in Chicago in the 1961-1962 period.
The back is a paper material that reads:
Richard Rush Studio, Inc
168 North Clinton St.
Chicago 6, Ill.
Some imperfections on the face but not bad. Please look at all the pictures and know this is a 15.5” circumference sign. It is very lightweight and looks to have the original metal hanging hole on the back as well.
It can't be over a pound unless packaged.
Some warping but again not terrible and the relief on the nose and the hat bill at roughly 1” to 1.25” from the background behind the Smokey figure.
There are a few scratches as seen in the pictures. Overall this did not see a ton of use (some paint wear on the nose)
All letters are in very good condition as well
Thanks for looking!
